MRI Scans

Now, anxiety free.

What is an MRI Scan?

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is a noninvasive approach that uses magnets and radio waves to create images of the inside of your body. This allows doctors to view details of your organs and tissue without having to make any incisions. Using a different method than X-rays and CT Scans, an MRI does not use radiation. It is considered a safe alternative test, and is often used with pregnant women.

Anxiety free?

For some patients, the closeness of the MRI tube causes anxiety. That’s why we offer the True Open MRI. Open on all four sides, this machine bring a stress-free experience. It’s ideal for children, patients with claustrophobia, or those that are too tall or large to use a traditional MRI.

What can I expect?

Because MRI Scans use an incredibly strong magnetic pull, technologists will ask you to change into a gown. They will also screen you for a variety of conditions, like pacemakers, skin tattoos, and artificial heart valves. The scan runs an average of 45 minutes, and you will need to lie still during that time. An MRI also emits a series of banging noises, so you’ll be provided with ear plugs. Specific instructions will be provided at the time of scheduling.

Available at the following locations.

Fredericksburg's only True Open MRI

True Open MRI

We are the first and only facility in the region to offer the comfort and benefits of a True Open MRI. While surrounding facilities have MRI machines with wider designs, referred to as “open MRIs,” they are not open on four sides. “True open” means that the machine is open on all four sides, like a “pancake” above the patient.

Radiation Free

Unlike CT and PET/CT Scans, an MRI provides a radiation-free experience. This makes an MRI ideal for expecting mothers. It also requires little-to-no preparation, like altering diet or liquid intake, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule.
