Fredericksburg and Stafford are home to several unique organizations, all united in the fight against cancer. When it comes to serving the community, these nonprofit organizations are making quite the impact. Their work is fueled by the belief that it’s not enough to spread awareness. They are taking action by actively helping others when it’s needed most.

Fairy Godmother Project

The work of the Fairy Godmother Project is to focus on the parents whose children have pediatric cancer. FGP’s mission is to alleviate the day-to-day stress through emotional and financial support to the caregivers of cancer patients. This mission is carried out by making meals, providing professional house cleaning, and lawn care, as well as gas and grocery cards for local families. Through their Financial Relief Fund, FGP pays bills twice annually for the families served. Their work also includes gifting professional photography sessions, as well as assisting with end of life needs for families.

Ellie’s Elves

Ellie’s Elves offers support and encouragement to local families during times of crisis. This organization was founded in memory of 2-year-old Virginia native, Ellie Blaine, during her battle with pediatric cancer. Ellie’s Elves hosts three collection locations of “Elves Donation Closets” for clothing and shoes, housewares, toiletries, and other necessities. “Ellie’s Toy Closet” is specifically stocked with new toys, electronics, and books for pediatric patients receiving care, with two locations—one in the Mary Washington Hospital Regional Cancer Center and a second in the main building of Mary Washington Healthcare.
