Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg Partners with Mary’s Ribbons Display for Breast Cancer Awareness this October

Fredericksburg, VA (PRUnderground) October 1st, 2019. Advanced technology converges with local history as Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg partners with Washington Heritage Museums in spreading breast cancer awareness this October. During regular tour hours, throughout October, the community is invited to place pink ribbons on the fence in front of the Mary Washington House. This yearly tradition honors those who battled breast cancer, celebrates survivors and promotes routine screening and early detection.

“Mary’s Ribbons” began several years ago, named after the mother of our nation’s first president. August 25, 2019, marked the 230th anniversary of the death of Mary Ball Washington who was said to have a “malignancy of the breast”, now known as breast cancer. Advances in modern medicine have led to the eradication of many diseases, but breast cancer continues to affect one in eight women each year. Through annual breast screening and advancements in technology, early detection has led to greater treatment options and survival rates as high as 99%.

Ribbons are available at Mary Washington House and any of the five Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg locations. All are encouraged to participate free of charge. Ribbons tied to the fence will remain throughout the month of October.

Participants are also encouraged to write the names of their loved ones in the Book of Honor and Remembrance located within the house. To ensure that more survivors are celebrated each year, the community is encouraged to schedule their annual mammogram by calling (540) 741-XRAY (9729).
